car battery remote changing

If you're like many other St. Augustine drivers, then you probably enjoy the convenience of having remote start capabilities for your Mazda vehicle. However, every once in a while, the battery in your key fob will need to be changed. If you're unsure how to change the battery in your Mazda key fob, then you're in luck. The service department at Hodges Mazda has put together a handy little guide to help show you how to open a Mazda key fob and replace the battery from home.

What You'll Need

To get started on learning how to change the battery in a Mazda key fob, you'll need a few things. Here are the items you'll need:

  • A replacement battery on hand (CR2025 battery)
  • Your Mazda key fob
  • A small flathead screwdriver (wrap the head in tape to prevent scratching)

Now that you have everything you need, you can easily learn how to open your Mazda6 key fob or any Mazda key fob. For other types of repair you can't do at home, feel free to use our Mazda service coupons.

Opening the Key Fob

To open your Mazda key fob, simply follow these steps to get your remote working and get back on the Orange Park roads:

  1. On the back of your key fob, push the auxiliary button in order to remove the metal key.
  2. Once the metal key is out, you'll be able to see a slot on either side of the key fob.
  3. Pry the case open with the taped-wrapped flathead screwdriver. Open one side first and then the other. You'll want to be gentle so as not to scratch or damage anything.
  4. Once the case is removed, you'll want to place it in an open and visible spot so you don't lose it.

Replacing the Battery

Now that you have the Mazda key fob opened, it's time to replace the battery. Follow this quick process to replace the old battery:

  1. Remove the battery cap. You'll want to place the cap next to the key fob case.
  2. After you've removed the cap, the key fob battery should be fully exposed. While you remove the battery, you'll want to be careful as you don't want to damage the small rubber ring underneath the battery.
  3. If the rubber ring becomes scratched or damaged, you'll want to replace this item before moving on with the battery replacement process.
  4. When you have the ring in place, you'll want to put the new battery in the correct spot inside the key fob where the old battery used to be. The positive side (+) should be facing upwards.
  5. With the new battery inside the key fob, put on the battery cover and reattach both sides of the key fob case. Press until you hear a click noise.

Now you know how to change the battery in a Mazda key fob, and you're ready to get back on the Orange Park roads. Be sure to take advantage of our Mazda service coupons if you need to visit our service center for more serious repair.
